Developing detection systems based on nucleic acid analysis using PCR in the field of allergens, GMO and animal species and offering these to customers in the form of kits for their own use or as a service analysis, Matthias Kuhn and Steffen Mergemeier founded CONGEN<\/strong><\/span> Biotechnologie GmbH with this business idea in 1998.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just one year later, the development activities for service applications started in the first laboratory premises. After successful DIN EN ISO 9001 certification in 2001, preparations for accreditation according to DIN EN ISO 17025 followed.<\/span><\/p>\n

24 years and more than 100,000 examined samples and 300,000 DNA extracts later, the focus and core competencies have shifted.<\/span><\/p>\n

To date, CONGEN<\/strong><\/a> Biotechnologie GmbH has focused primarily on the development and manufacture of a large number of detection systems in the field of food analysis. With the certification according to DIN EN ISO 13485 in 2013, the product range was expanded to include clinical test procedures. <\/span>The demand and use of test kits has increased steadily since the company was founded in 1998. This led to necessary extensions and adjustments to the product portfolio in line with current market requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n

The SARS-Cov2 pandemic has also presented our company with numerous challenges over the past two years. CONGEN<\/strong><\/a> was one of the first manufacturers to develop real-time detection of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. By the end of 2020 alone, CONGEN had produced more than 10 million<\/a> SARS-CoV-2 PCR tests, making an important contribution to the healthcare system.<\/span><\/p>\n

In recent years, the laboratory market in Germany has been characterized by ongoing market growth due to concentration processes. A new market structure developed with a few large companies and a few smaller regional suppliers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The sum total of developments over the past two decades have led to the management deciding to discontinue service analytics on December 31, 2022 and to close the CONGEN<\/strong><\/a> Servicelab division from January 2023. We would like to thank all of our customers and partners who have used the CONGEN<\/strong><\/a> service for the many years of trust in our analytics.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the future, the focus will be on the development, design and manufacture of test kits in the diagnostic field according to market and customer requirements.
